THE LOST SENSE OF SIN

The Catechism of the Catholic Church speaks of sin as follows:
Sin is an offence against reason, truth, and right conscience; it is a failure in genuine love for God and neighbour caused by a perverse attachment to certain goods.... It has been defined [by St Augustine] as "an utterance, a deed, or a desire contrary to the eternal law."

Sin is an offence against God.... Sin sets itself against God's love for us and turns our hearts away from it. Like the first sin, it is disobedience, a revolt against God through the will to become "like gods," knowing and determining good and evil. Sin is thus "love of oneself even to the contempt of God."

Jesus said Sinners are slaves.
Pope Benedict said- "In today’s world the sense of sin has been lost. However as the sense of sin decreases the sense of guilt increases. People therefore try to dominate the other to give themselves a sense of freedom."
Hence the attitudes in today’s secular world- ‘I’ve got him’, I’ve want him, I’ve lost him, I don’t want him- always trying to dominate the other. And it doesn’t matter how they go about it. More often than not it involves taking away or attempting to take away ones dignity

YOU ARE CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT

YOU ARE CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT
by
J. A. Fullerton

Those who believe in Jesus do not belong to the darkness or the night
They put on faith and love as a breastplate and become children of the light
The hope of salvation is their helmet and prayer their constant friend
And throughout their life to the will of God their own will does bend.

They never repay evil with evil but have the best intentions for everyone
For they look above to a higher wisdom and follow the example of God's Only Son
They shun every form of evil and hold onto what is good
For they hope the peace of God will make them holy and behave as children of the light really should.

They try to discover what God wants of them, and the effects of the light are seen in complete goodness uprightness and the truth
And anything shown up by the light is illuminated as their proof
They never indulge in sexual immorality or impurity for they are works of the darkest star
But avoid all works of darkness and show them up for what they are.

SELF DESTRUCTION CAUSED BY SIN

WEEP NOT FOR ME
by
J. A. Fullerton

When Our Blessed Lord on the way to Calvary did carry His cross
Some people spat and jeered and stones did toss
And some did weep and shed a tear
They were so sad to see someone suffer whom they held so dear.

But Our Blessed Lord knew that all His trials would be conquered by love
And He would rise from the dead and ascend to His Father above
He was more concerned about those He was leaving behind
For to the sufferings caused by sin they were blind.

So as He passed by on His way to do His Father's will
That written in the scriptures which He had to fulfill
"Weep not for Me, but for yourselves and your children" He did say
For He knew they would fall victims to sin and decay.

But all is not lost because Our Blessed Lord has left a very special gift
The sacrament of penance to bring us back when we drift
For remember Our Lord is the Good Shepherd with a love untold
And welcomes each lost sheep back into His fold.

THE SEAL OF CONFESSION

THE SEAL OF CONFESSION
by
J. A. Fullerton

Water boils at one hundred degrees
And at zero it does freeze
If you throw things in the air they fall back to the ground
By the law of gravity they are bound.

Three thousand years ago God appeared to Moses you know
And gave His commandments, ten in a row
Thou shalt not kill and thou shalt not steal
These two commandments were part of the deal.

Two thousand years ago Jesus God's Son came to earth
Mary His mother was a virgin who gave birth
And Jesus gave His disciples the power to forgive sin
Another law of God just came in.

The catholic priest is a disciple of Jesus today
They have to power for sins to take away
The seal of confession is something Jesus did arrange
It is a law of God and can't be changed.
